About Us

The Latin America Policy Organization is a student-run organization at the George Washington University focused on serving as a discussion platform for Latin American current affairs and promoting academic and professional development. LAPO functions as a think tank for students from different disciplines who share the same regional interest. Students engaged in international affairs, economics, history, business, geography, law, international development, civil society, and similar areas are strongly encouraged to join LAPO. Members can freely develop their interest by promoting professional events, presenting academic papers and research, connecting LAPO to faculty and relevant GW organizations, and publishing in our blog.

Discussion Plaform

The discussion of Latin American current affairs oftentimes is limited to classroom space or external forums, where students cannot contribute to the discussion. LAPO provides a platform where students can discuss Latin American current affairs with other informed peers who share the regional knowledge and interest. LAPO strives to increase the relevance and exposure of Latin American current affairs at the George Washington University by conducting meetings, sharing news, and providing a virtual publication site.

Professional Development

LAPO supports the professional growth of its members by providing leadership roles, networking opportunities, and greater visibility of published content. Through hosting and co-hosting events with other organizations and institutions, LAPO serves as a center of professional development for students interested in working for think tanks, non-profit organizations, governments, NGOs, or private companies with business in Latin America.

Academics and Research

LAPO functions as a student-run think tank, where members actively research, debate, and publish their thoughts on the LAPO Blog. LAPO helps students reach a larger audience when writing about regional current affairs. Members continue to expand their academic knowledge of Latin America and engage with faculty outside the classroom, developing strong writing, analysis, and debating skills.
